elcome to George Stone Technical Center. GSTC is now an open enrollment campus. During the year students may register at any time and start class on each Monday as long as there is space available in the program. George Stone Technical Center

The George Stone Adult High Academy is not an alternative high school program. It is an adult program serving students motivated to earn their standard high school diploma.

Minimum age to be considered: Sixteen (16) years old

All prospective students must take the TABE test (Test of Adult Basic Education)

 

Generally, the TABE is given at George Stone every Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. in the assessment department. Please call 941-6200 x. 2160 to let them know you are interested in the Adult High Academy as you may need to test at a different day/time. ALL prospective students must attend a mandatory orientation before registering and enrolling in classes.

Students should not withdraw from their regular high school until attending an orientation session and speaking with a counselor.

Subsequent orientations and registrations will follow throughout the year as needed. Please check the GSTC website for an up to date schedule.

 

After consultation with a counselor, if it is determined that a student will be admitted to the George Stone Adult High Academy or another adult educational program, the student will need to withdraw from his/her regular high school prior to registering for classes.

 

Specific admission criteria:

  •  A minimum 16 high school credits and a 10.0 grade level score on all three (3) areas of the Level A TABE test or

  • 18 high school credits and a 9.0 grade level score on all three (3) areas of the level A TABE test.

Students not meeting the academic criteria will be referred to a Community School or an ABE/GED program. The discipline record of any student interested in attending the Adult High Academy will be reviewed and may be factored into the admission process.

Curriculum:

A competency-based program of study via the Compass Learning System, using high-interest, multi-media Web-based instruction. Core and elective academic courses along with elective PSAV (Post-Secondary Adult Vocational) courses will be offered.
