A. ADMISSIONS

  1. 1. All prospective students are highly encouraged to take the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) prior to registration unless they have earned an Associates or higher degree. Proof of this degree must be presented to George Stone Guidance Department in the form of a certified transcript or diploma. If the required TABE scores are not obtained by the end of the sixth week, the student will be withdrawn.

  2. 2. If you have current TABE scores (no older than two years) at another institution, you may submit them to the Assessment Department in a sealed envelope. If accepted, they will be put into George Stone's records.

  3. 3. High school graduates from Escambia County prior to 1990 or from another county must provide an official transcript or diploma.

  4. 4. In order to receive instate tuition, students are required to prove Florida residency. Florida driver's license, voter registration, or vehicle registration are required. They must be issued at least one year prior to first day of class. Two documents are required.

  5. 5. Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian. If someone under 18 wishes to enroll in the GED prep course, they will need to obtain a age waiver from Ed Simpkins (850-941-6200 x2135) at George Stone or Susan Winters at George Stone (850-941-6200 x2117).

  6. 6. A $10.00 registration fee (cash or check) is required of all students. Also, there is a $30.00 fee per semester for GED, ABE and VPI classes. Financial Aid does not cover this fee.

  7. 7. If your fee or tuition will be covered by an outside agency, you must present an authorization letter prior to registration. If not, you will need to self-pay at registration.

  9. B. TESTING

1. The TABE test is usually administered Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7:45 AM or 12:45 PM. (Subject to change, please call to confirm test dates)

2. Each student must have a photo ID, $10.00 cash or money order only (no checks or credit cards accepted), and their social security number.

3. You do not need to pre-register.

C. FINANCIAL AID

To determine eligibility for financial aid, complete the following steps:

1. You can apply for federal and state aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by going to www.fafsa.gov.

2. The George Stone School Code is 016280.

3. After you have submitted your online application, please allow at least three (3) business days before contacting our Financial Aid Officer, Mrs. Lynne Gamewell, for verification. Mrs. Gamewell can be reached at (850) 941-6200 ext. 2129. Please be aware that if you do not possess a standard diploma or GED you will need to take and pass the CPT at PSC in order to qualify for a PELL grant. The test is given Monday-Thursday at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. You can call 850-484-1656 for information. The cost is $10.00 if not a student at PSC. A letter from GSTC is needed before you can be tested. Please see a counselor or Mrs. Gamewell to obtain one.

4. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE FINANCIAL AID APPROVAL AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION YOU MUST BE ABLE TO PAY YOUR FEES AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION.

D. SELF PAYERS

Self Payers are individuals who will not be using financial aid.

1. All fees must be paid at registration and thereafter during the last week of the month for the following month.

E. ENROLLMENT

Program Registration and Start Dates for the 2012-2013 school year:

CNA-July 19 August 20
Returning Students -July 24 August 20
New Students - July 25 August 20

Registration will continue until the class is full.

 

Please be aware that for the 2012-2013 school year most GSTC programs will have open enrollment. New students will be started every Monday in classes that have spaces available.

 

One exception is the CNA Program. A new class will start every 9 weeks. See dates below:

2nd 9 weeks Registration:   October 9, 2013   Class starts: October 22, 2013

3rd 9 weeks Registration:   December 11, 2013      Class starts: January 8, 2013

4th 9 weeks Registration:   March 5, 2013        Class starts: March 18, 2013

 

CNA students must start no later than the 2nd day of class.

Required scores for the CNA program have been raised to: Reading 10th grade   

                                                                                 Math 10th grade

                                                                                 Language 10th grade
