This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in network support services positions in the Information Technology career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Information Technology career cluster. This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills in current network technologies for Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and the Internet. Through classroom work, computer-aided instruction, hands-on labs, and team projects, the student learns the skills necessary to install, support, and perform day to day administrative task.

 

The content includes, but is not limited to, instruction in computer literacy; software application support; basic hardware configuration and troubleshooting; networking technologies, security, administration; and customer service and human relations skills. 


George Stone Technical College, as a Cisco Networking Academy and Microsoft IT Academy, includes course material to help prepare the student for the Microsoft MTA Networking Fundamentals, CompTIA Network+, and Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification exams.
